How self-close pivot hinge work ?

A hydraulic pivot hinge works by using oil dynamics to control the door’s speed and movement, providing a smooth, controlled, and soft-close action. The weight of the door generates kinetic energy, which is converted to pressure in a closed hydraulic circuit. This pressure controls the flow of oil through small passages and adjustable valves, which dictate the damping and closing speed, ensuring a gentle and precise operation for heavy doors.

How it operates:

  1. Pivot System: Unlike traditional hinges, pivot hinges support the door from pivots at the top and bottom, allowing it to swing on a vertical axis.
  2. Hydraulic Fluid and Pressure: The system contains a closed circuit of hydraulic fluid. When the door moves, the weight of the door converts into kinetic energy, building pressure within this oil-filled circuit.
  3. Oil Flow and Valves: The pressure forces the hydraulic fluid to move through the system’s internal channels. The speed of this movement is controlled by adjustable valves within the circuit.
  4. Damping and Soft-Close: By adjusting these valves, the user can precisely control the oil flow, which in turn controls the damping (wall protection) and the closing speed. This creates a soft, controlled movement, preventing abrupt swinging and providing a gentle close.
  5. Latch Control (Optional): Some advanced systems include “Latch Control” to provide a final burst of closing force, ensuring the door fully closes and latches properly when a lock is involved.

Key components and features:

  • Hidden Hardware:The system is often hidden within the door itself, with only a small base on the floor or a hidden ceiling plate.
  • Two-Way Action:Many hydraulic pivot hinges allow the door to swing both inwards and outwards, offering greater design flexibility.
  • Adjustability:The ability to adjust the closing speed, damping, and even the final latching action provides precise control over the door’s movement.
  • Weight Support:These hinges are designed for heavy and wide doors, distributing the door’s weight to the floor and frame more effectively than traditional hinges.
